"She loved the smell of wet dirt the way others might love the smell of roses" Dawn Hewitt

Ceramics has captivated me since I was young. I recall watching my sari-clad mother use a kick wheel to form a sugar bowl from a ball of clay. I stopped making pots during college when other pursuits intervened. But now the mud muse has captured me again. What I love about pottery is that it is touchable art—tools of everyday life presented artistically. My current work uses carved Indian stamps to layer textures and accents on the surface of the vessels I throw or hand-build. I hope that the pieces I enjoy making bring pleasure to those who use them.
